If you go through one of the online printing companies, they have special (and free) offers on all the time. I got 160 6 x 4 inch prints for £6.95 including p&p. This made over 50m of bunting, so pretty cost effective.
For mine, (a school leavers party) I chose a selection of portait and landscape for all the children throughout their school career. I gave all the photos a black border, so they had a uniform feel, and made the early years pictures of them first joining the school or in reception class black and white.
So easy: Punch 2 holes in the top, thread string, and fix with tape at the back.
One of my co decorators taped 1p pieces to the back of the photos to try and weight them down.
In the end we moved half of them into the marquee, but they looked great there too.
If these are being placed against a wall, it doesn't matter that you can only see the photos on one side. If they have to be viewed from more than one side, you could put a photo back to back. (Attach to the string by stapling together over the string).
These were very popular with the kids and parents. The pictures were threaded randomly so guests could wander round the marquee trying to recognise the kids at different ages, and kids trying to spot themselves.
