Make Your Own Bobsleigh Costume Instructions

Last friday, Abbi had House Day at school.  The kids come to school in fancy dress often themed to something topical.  They play lots of games and have activities within their houses.

The theme for this house day was Sochi Winter Olympics.  Why wouldn't you go as a bob sleigher.

I had an enormous box that has been crying out for a project.

1.  First we split it down and cut out the two long sides.  We cut a rough bob sleigh shape down each long side, and taped the box into a 3d shape.

The nose is pulled narrower than the back (to be more aerodynamic obviously).

2.  We made made a template for the nose.

3.  Score lightly with a knife, and bend

4&5.  Double sided tape to hold in place.

6.  We taped over the edges of the box with tape so that we could paint them.

7&8. Take unfinished bobslegh for a spin

9.  We used old stain stop undercoat to paint the box so that ordinary house paint wold stick

10. Paint with orinary house paint.  (incidentally this is the colour of our front door.)

11. Using the shapes I had cut out, we made the blades/ runners

12.  Cover with tin foil.

13&14.  We painted the Jamaican flag on ours.

15. And cut out letters - just in case anyone wasnt sure!

The kids played with this for ages.....Im surprised it was still intact for house day.  Even Jamie not too old to take it for a spin!

To top off the costume, we decorated a black t-shirt with puffy paint.

Any black yellow and green outfit would be fine.

Not sure why she pulled this face.....
