DIY Wall Art From Recycled Travel Maps and Modge Podge.

I made this diy wall art collage from recycled travel bus, train and tube maps.  Add some left over paint, modge podge and left over paint.  Ba da bing.  Cheap and easy wall art.

The inspiration came from an Usborne Art book, where they used chinese newspaper to make a collage.  

The colours and patterns in some of these maps I used are really beautiful.   In many cases, the map suggested a shape.... The Glasgow Tube Map (Affectionately known as The Clockwork Orange)  became a crab.

Mumbai had to be a sea horse....

Moscow couldn't be anything except an Octopus right?

Buenes Aires a Shark.....

And Paris had to be these long chic fish..

Paramatta is a turtle

New York is a Pirhana

And Tokyo became these little guys...

This was an easy way to use up some of the travel maps that were kicking around, and the places we haven't been to were downloaded from the internet to supplement our collection.

To assemble,  we painted a dark blue and black wash of acrylic pain on the canvas, cut and modge podged the fish, and finished with a coat of clear varnish.
